April 2018 Updates and Improvements

This past month we focused on solely the course section of OMNIS. These changes and additions reflect OMNIS 1.9 updates. Take a look and let me know your thoughts! Course Menu Consolidation- Biz Admin & Staff Accounts
I’ve hated the grey box menu display since day one. They’ve got to go! But before removing them, we have to figure out where to relocate the content within those menus.
Throughout the next few months I am trying to slowly remove these sub-menus and link each icon directly to one page, simplifying the navigation process.
This past update only included the consolidation of the course menu view. Below are those changes:
Move the [Requests] page to the [Courses] page. Add [View Course Requests] for admin/staff users near search bar under course page Link [View Course Requests] to current request page BEFORE
AFTER Update UI and icon changes for course page
We really needed a UI (user interface) update for the course display pages. I was having users (instructors, students, and parents!) not knowing where to view courses, make changes to scheduling, or add lesson content. I could sense the frustration 😅 Here are my responses to these frustrations:
Current, Completed, and Saved Courses: Change View Course icon to blue [View] icon Change title bar ‘Tools’ to ‘Uploads’ and center with YouTube & File Folder Icons Move Course Status Icon to far right, away from YouTube & File Folder icons Add title above course status icon displaying ‘Change Status’ Center page numberings Move delete icon to far right with spacing between [Launch]
- for Saved courses Change the Launch Course Status icon to red [Launch] icon

In addition to the course pages, we made some updates to the course view section. When you click [View] next to a course, note the following changes were made to improve user-friendliness: Change ‘Attendance’ text to ‘View Attendance’ Change title bar ‘Tools’ to ‘Uploads’ and center with YouTube & file folder icons Copy [Remarks] made from instructor (located in scheduling section) to display next to each session and add title with ‘Remarks’ Change text from ‘Course Discussion’ to ‘Public Discussion’ Move Public Discussion (and Private Q&A) above page numberings Center page numberings within course view
AFTER Course Creation Fixes and Updates:
Lastly, after reviewing OMNIS 1.8 Updates, I wanted to add some small changes and bug fixtures. I’m hoping this REALLY makes the creation process as simple and fast as can be for users. Here are those changes:
Fixed errors with “This field is required” warning not being removed after the required field has been added with the following fields below: Student Limit (even after the type is selected) Create Lessons Price per Session Requested Changes outside of 1.8 Scope: Removed icons next to date/time fields to avoid users from clicking the icon… which didn’t lead to anything. Directs users to click on field directly.
Made icons clickable to change date/timeUpdated roster section: Move the [+Add Student] icon to far left above the “Allow additional students to enroll in this course” Move the [Save] icon to the right of the [Previous] icon Change text from ‘Save’ to ‘Save Course’ BEFORE
AFTER And there you have it… 1.9 updates completed and pushed for live production as of this morning! Looking forward to what’s in store for OMNIS 2.0 Updates. Here’s one (possible) idea… mobile user-friendliness for student/parent logins. Until next time!
